Employers responsibilty for Work Related Road Safety .

The Corporate Manslaughter Bill and Corporate Homicide Act come into force on 6th April 2008 and for the first time companies and organisationscan be be found guilty of Corporate Manslaughter as a result of serious management failure.

This includes driving not just a company vehicle but a private vehicle on company business.

 

Health and Safety Law. 

Health and Safety Law requires  Employers and the Self Employed to ensures so far as is reasonably practcal. the health, safety and welfare of all employees and to safeguard others who may be put at from their activities.

This includes when they are undertaking work related driving activities

 

How often do you check your drivers credentials.

Do they have the correct licence for the vehicle they are driving ?

Do you know what to look for on a Driving Licence ?

Is their licence valid.?

Does the driver complete a competent vehicle safety check ?

Is the vehicle being driven in a safe and courteous way, especially if your company name is on the vehicle ?

 

It is estimated that 1 in 3 road deaths involve a driver on company business, whether they are driving a company vehicle or their own vehicle. 

That is approximately 16 employees a week killed at work whilst at the wheel.

As a company why is driver risk assessment and management essential ?

 

The Police can and will be involved in all investigations involving a work related road death of injury.
